Working in London
London is a different job from the rest of our patch, and the difference is rarely the gate. It is the access. Entrances open straight onto live roads, there is nowhere to park a van, groundworks need permits, and half the properties are in a conservation area where what the gate looks like is settled before what it does. We plan the work round that rather than turning up and discovering it.
The other difference is the mix. In one week we can be on a distribution yard in the north-west, a managed residential block where the managing agent is answerable to leaseholders, and a Victorian frontage where somebody wants railings and a pair of gates that match the house. Those are three separate conversations, and we would rather have the right one with you.
Most of our London work reaches us either along the A41 and the M1 from our Berkhamsted workshop, or through the boroughs on the northern edge of the city where our Hertfordshire work already runs. Barnet has its own page, and Borehamwood, Potters Bar and Rickmansworth sit on the same routes.
North London
North London is where most of our city work is. Barnet, Enfield, Haringey and the boroughs along the northern edge sit on the same routes as our Hertfordshire work, which is why an engineer covering Watford or St Albans in the morning can be in north London in the afternoon.
It is also where the two halves of our work meet most often: commercial gates and barriers on trade and distribution sites, and driveway gates and railings on the large Victorian and Edwardian housing stock.

Do you cover central London as well as the north?
Yes. Most of our work is in the north and north-west, because that is where our routes from Berkhamsted run, but we take commercial work across the city. Access, parking and permits are usually the thing that shapes the job rather than the distance, so tell us where the entrance is when you ring.
Can I have an electric gate on a London property in a conservation area?
Often, yes, but what the gate looks like is usually settled before what it does, and that is a planning question rather than an engineering one. We make gates to a drawing, so if you have a design that has been agreed, or a neighbouring property to match, we can work to it.
