Cookie policy

This page explains what this website stores on your device, and what it does not. It covers cookies and anything similar, such as information kept in your browser's local storage.

The short version

This website does not track you, and it stores nothing on your device. We checked the whole site rather than assuming: no cookies are set on any page, and nothing is written to your browser's storage.

Nothing on this site is loaded from any other company. There is no advertising, no marketing pixels, no social media trackers, no chat widget, no booking tool, no embedded maps or videos, and no spam checking service from an outside supplier. Even our fonts are served from our own server rather than from a font company, so loading a page here does not tell anyone else that you were here.

There is no website analytics on this site at the moment. We do not currently measure our visitors at all.

You will not see a cookie banner on this site. That is deliberate, and it is explained under "Why there is no cookie banner" below.

What we store, and why

There are two categories in law. Things that are strictly necessary to provide the website or a service you have asked for, which do not require your consent. And everything else, which does.

Strictly necessary

Nothing, for an ordinary visitor. Browsing this site, and filling in and submitting the quote form, stores nothing on your device. The security token that protects the quote form is sent inside the form itself rather than saved on your computer, and our page caching does not set anything for visitors.

There is one exception, and it never applies to you unless you work here: if one of our own staff signs in to the website's administration area, the website sets a session cookie so that it knows they are signed in. That is strictly necessary for them to do their job and it is never set for anyone else.

Everything else

There is nothing in this category. We set no analytics, advertising, personalisation or social media cookies.

How we keep the quote form free of spam, without a third party

Our quote form is how people tell us a gate has stopped working. Left unprotected, it fills with automated junk and a real emergency gets buried underneath it.

We protect it using checks built into our own website rather than an outside service such as a CAPTCHA or a challenge widget. In plain terms: a hidden field that a person never sees, a check on how quickly the form was completed, a security token tied to your visit, a limit on repeated submissions from the same connection, and full checking of everything you send on our own server.

None of this stores anything on your device, and none of it contacts another company. Nothing about you is shared with anyone as a result of it. It is described more fully in our privacy policy.

Why there is no cookie banner

Cookie banners exist to get your consent for things that need it. This site stores nothing at all on your device, so a banner here would be asking your permission for nothing. The regulator's position is that you should not be asked for consent you do not need, and we would rather not add a pop up to a website that has nothing to pop up about.

This is a statement about how the site is today, and it is deliberately load bearing. If anything on this site ever changes so that it stores something that is not strictly necessary, then a consent banner appears at the same moment, and this page is updated in the same change. That applies in particular to website analytics, which we intend to add.

When we add website analytics

We plan to add Google Analytics 4 once this site has been live for a while.

We are being specific about it here rather than leaving this page to quietly go out of date. Google Analytics 4 will require your consent, and it will not be added quietly.

Some analytics no longer needs consent in the UK. Since 5 February 2026 there has been a narrow exception for statistics used purely to improve a service, where the information stays with the site operator. Google Analytics does not fall inside that exception, because Google also uses the information for its own purposes. So when we add it:

  • a consent banner will appear before anything is loaded;
  • accepting and rejecting will be equally easy, and side by side;
  • nothing will be pre ticked, and carrying on browsing will not count as agreement;
  • Google Analytics will not load at all unless and until you accept;
  • you will be able to change your mind at any time from a "Cookie settings" link in the footer;
  • a small cookie will remember your answer, so that we do not keep asking. That one is strictly necessary, because it exists only to record the choice you made, and it will be listed here by name and lifetime at the same time;
  • and this page will be updated on the same day, with the new cookies listed by name, purpose and lifetime, and the date at the top of this page changed.

Until every one of those is in place, analytics does not go on.

How to control cookies yourself

You can see, block and delete what any website stores on your device from your browser's own settings. Every major browser lets you do this, and most have a help page explaining how.

There is nothing of ours to block at the moment. If you block everything as a general setting, parts of this site may stop working, including the quote form.

Changes to this policy

We update this page whenever what the site stores changes, and we change the date at the top when we do.
